OUT OF COMMISSION
Well, this'll happen sometimes. I've been felled by a mighty cold, and am not running until it's better. So I missed yesterday's "scheduled" run, and may not get another one in until Thursday or later. Bummer.

RUNNER'S LOG, 9/5/09
3 miles in Noe Valley, not that easy, considering I ran on a full stomach - just a "maintenance run" I guess. Ended up logging a total of 19 miles this week, which I think is tied for a personal best in a 7-day period.

RUNNER'S LOG, 9/1/09
Ran = 7.117 miles
Time = 1.00:20
Average = 8:28/mile
Very, very satisfying run. Now if I could do this run without the 5 very brief walking breaks I took, I could get the average time down to 8:15 maybe...?

I RAN A 5K TODAY
To be honest, it was a little frustrating. It was called the PLATE-TO-PLATE 5K, and it started outside of AT&T Park in San Francisco and ended in the same spot, at one point crossing home plate.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but I’m sorta already past this level of running. I could barely even trot for a good percentage of the race, there were so many beginners – old ladies, children, people who broke down and walked in packs after a half mile – that getting a good time, my goal, was impossible. I ran nearly as fast as I could during the times when I had a little open space in front of me, and when I finished the 3.1 miles, the clock said 27:something. That wasn’t start-to-finish, that was the time the gun went off until the time I finished. It took me at LEAST 45 seconds just to cross the starting line, it was so crowded.
So – 3.1 miles at a moderate jog. Then I drank a couple beers at the Giants game and ate a huge slice of cake that night. I’ll do better next week, when my real half-marathon training begins.

MY FIRST POST – RUNNER’S LOG, 8/27/09
Ran = 6.925 miles
Time = 1.02:41
Average = 9:03/mile
I ran at lunchtime around Aquatic Park in Berkeley. I stopped more than I usually do, totally hot and sweaty – total of 4 stops, two for water and two to just simply walk. So my time of 9:03 per mile is pretty weak, compared to my goal of about 8:20 – but then again, I stopped a bunch, and then tried to trot instead of go all-out because it was so hot.
Running nearly 7 miles, though, was pretty satisfying, and since I’ve got a 5K coming on Sunday I’m just going to try and run 2.5 miles tomorrow at an easy pace, then take Saturday off. This was my first run since Sunday so I feel like it was solid enough.
